As ICT in the curriculum grows, both as a subject and as a tool in other key curriculum subjects, we felt the need to end our ICT facilities. Before our ICT Lab, was constructed, we possessed a smaller computer room of 16 computers. We used this in parallel with our ICT lab for teaching ICT but also being able to use ICT in other subjects while the main computer room was in use.
We felt that to truly integrate ICT into the curriculum as a whole as well as advance our pupil skills that we needed to replace this room with a room capable of comfortably of holding a whole class and offering a unique experience. During Easter 2009, what was called our ICT suite was stripped out ready for being refurnished to become our iMac Suite. The dividing wall that separate this room from the library was taken down and a new one put up, doubling the size of the room. We wanted to make this room unique and with consultation with our school council, the decor of the room was chosen. By the May half term 2009, the room was complete and soon after was opened during a school ICT week.
The iMac Suite offers a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and staff, as we believe there are very few schools in the country with this kind of setup. The room consists of 33 modern Apple iMac computers, with the latest creative software, enabling our pupils to have a much more creative and imaginative education. Along with the popular iLife suite of programs by Apple, for video editing, music production and photo editing, these machines also have software for comic book creation, animation, website design, Lego programming and graphic design, along with traditional packages for word processing and spreadsheets.
