At St Margaret's, we believe very heavily in the use of ICT in education, as a taught subject but also as an aid in teaching other parts of the the curriculum. We have invested heavily in our IT infrastructure to be able to have two networked ICT classrooms, each capable of giving each child in a class of 30, a computer each. To teach our pupils a wider range of computing skills, we have diversified from having an exclusively Windows based network, integrating the latest Apple iMac computers on to our school network.
Having a mix of the two type of machines, we believe that we will better equip our pupils with the skills to use computers at secondary school and beyond, but the ability to adapt to different situations they may face in using hardware and software from other companies.
We acknowledge the importance of the key skills that are needed to use a computer effectively, and this we feel includes typing, mouse control and basic computer knowledge. We integrate these elements into every year group's ICT lessons, as well as the curriculum modules we also teach.
We have integrated ICT into all our other curriculum subjects using a variety of different programs and devices. This we feel enforces what our children have learnt in their ICT subject lessons but also empowers them to extend their creativity and add more depth to their investigations.
